Coolsculpting Q & A

What is Coolsculpting?

Using controlled cooling to freeze unwanted fat, CoolSculpting is a safe and effective, noninvasive, FDA-cleared treatment that eliminates stubborn fat that won’t budge through diet and exercise for noticeable results.

How does CoolSculpting work?

Unlike any other fat-reducing treatment, CoolSculpting does not use painful needles or anesthesia to get the results you want.

Instead, during your CoolSculpting session, your physician will apply a gel pad and applicator to the area you want to target.

Some popular areas of focus include:

  • Stomach
  • Love handles
  • Upper back
  • Upper arms
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Bra strap area
  • Double chin

Does it hurt?

CoolSculpting, as you may have already guessed, is a chilly procedure. Though the treatment itself shouldn’t hurt, it will feel intensely cold.

The cold should subside within 5-10 minutes, as the targeted area begins to numb. You may also feel a slight tugging sensation when the applicator starts drawing the fatty tissue into the applicator cup.

Because CoolSculpting is a noninvasive procedure, you will likely be able to return to your normal day-to-day activities once the session is over.

Are there any serious side effects?

Pulling, tugging, and mild pinching and cramping at the treatment site are all normal sensations during the procedure.

Following your CoolSculpting session, it is also common to experience the following side effects:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Mild tingling
  • Stinging
  • Cramping
  • Aching
  • Sensitivity
  • Tenderness

Like any other cosmetic procedure, there are also rare side effects of CoolSculpting, which your doctor will discuss with you before your initial treatment.

Will I lose weight with CoolSculpting?

With typical diet and exercise, your body’s fat cells shrink, but the number of fat cells in your body remains the same. CoolSculpting doesn’t shrink your fat cells — it actually gets rid of them for good, reducing the amount of fat cells in your body by 20-25%.

The freezing is targeted and effective, so CoolSculpting only affects the fat cells in the areas you actually want to treat. Though the treatment itself technically doesn’t help you lose weight, you will lose fat and look slimmer than before.

For a slimmer figure that looks and feels great, call Amity Internal Medicine and Total Body today, or book an appointment online.
